A stretch of U.S. Hwy. 59 between Timpson and Tenaha was shut down Monday night as emergency responders worked to contain a fire that erupted when an 18-wheeler loaded with bags of sulfur crashed, releasing toxic sulfur smoke [deadly sulphur dioxide, that is, as deadly as chlorine gas — folc.ca].

The 18-wheeler rear-ended a vehicle making a right turn in front of Missionary Baptist Church in Timpson around 7:30 p.m., …. The truck then caught on fire, igniting the cargo….
